In Tennessee, New Year's and 'No Refusal' go hand-in-hand

While many are probably back to work after the Christmas holiday, there is still a big holiday this week. New Year's Eve celebrations will surely have brought more joy to Tennessee, with New Year's Day adding more fun to follow.

For some drivers, however, the joy of the festivities might be tainted by the stress and hassle of increased DUI enforcement in Tennessee. There will be various efforts to make drunk driving arrests, including the following:

  • More patrols on the roads looking for potential DUI suspects
  • Sobriety checkpoints
  • Bar checks to prevent drinking and driving

Among the above law enforcement efforts, law enforcement will also have utilized a "No Refusal" between Monday and end of day today. Tennessee police warn that if they have probable cause to believe a driver is impaired, they will get a warrant to require a blood test.

All of these tactics can be daunting and threatening to the future of Tennessee motorists. They should all be on-guard. Of course, having a designated sober driver is the best way to avoid DUI trouble. Even someone with good, legal intentions, someone who is not over the BAC limit, can get wrapped up by the strict DWI arrest efforts of Tennessee officials.

Anyone who is charged with DUI this holiday should not hesitate to work with an experienced DWI defense lawyer in Tennessee. An attorney who understands the complexities of the laws and the mistakes police often make when making arrests can help mitigate the impact an arrest could have on the new year.
