Arrested for DUI after the Super Bowl? Time to call a lawyer

Super Bowl Sunday is a fine time to enjoy a celebration, even if your team is not in the game. All across the nation, people threw Super Bowl parties and hosted their friends, neighbors and relatives. In many cases, alcohol was abundant.

If you were arrested for DUI on your way home from a Super Bowl party, you're probably feeling angry and terrified. Will you lose your driver's license? How will you get to work? Are you facing jail time? How much will all these fines, fees and costs add up to?

You need answers. The best way to get those answers is to have a lawyer individually evaluate your case. There are a range of factors to consider, such as whether you have been convicted of DUI in the past, whether you were in an accident and whether you had any child passengers in the car.

Assuming this is your first offense, even though you were not in an accident and you had no child passenger in your car, you could be facing some serious penalties.

Penalties for a first-time DUI in Tennessee

  • Between 48 hours and 11 months, 29 days in jail -- a minimum of 7 days if you blew a 0.20% or higher
  • A fine of between $350 and $1,500
  • License revocation for a year, although a restricted license is available
  • The court may order a drug or alcohol treatment program
  • Court-ordered restitution to anyone you injured or caused a loss to
  • An ignition interlock device installed on your vehicle at your expense
  • Expenses for towing, bail, court costs, drug/alcohol treatment, license reinstatement fees and high-risk insurance

There are many issues in a DUI case. For example, did the police officer follow the law when pulling you over and administering the tests? If the officer violated your rights, some of the evidence in your case might be inadmissible. This could make it much harder for the prosecution to prove their case against you.

To build a strong defense, it's important to have an experienced defense attorney on your side. Don't wait to get in touch with a defense attorney. There are tight deadlines, especially when it comes to saving your driver's license. Call today.
