DUI enforcement increases for Labor Day Holiday

In August, you can feel the change in seasons coming. With school back in session in Chattanooga, and the slight cooling in the daily temps, you know summer is winding down and fall is just around the corner. But first comes the Labor Day weekend, which is viewed by many as the unofficial end of summer.

When does a police officer have a reason to make a DUI stop?

It depends. It is a frequently used and sometimes disappointing answer to that question. But there is good reason for the inherent vagueness. Because of the Fourth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, the police cannot simply stop anyone at anytime, just to check and see if they have committed a crime.

Impaired driving in Tennessee includes prescription drugs

DUI cases in Tennessee typically involve allegations of drunken driving resulting from drinking too much alcohol. In our culture, that is all too easy to do, what with widespread availability of alcohol in stores, restaurants, sporting facilities or bars.

What are the penalties for multiple DUIs in Tennesee?

Among all of the states, Tennessee has some of the toughest penalties for DUI. A first DUI conviction generally results in a minimum of 48 hours in jail. If your blood-alcohol concentration is .20 or higher, though, then the minimum jail time is increased to seven days for a first offense.
