New member of Tennessee Titans is new source of DUI law support
The lawmakers who want to make Tennessee drunk driving laws stricter might now all be able to classify themselves as football fans. At least they might say that they are fans of new Tennessee Titan Delanie Walker.
Walker joins the Titans not only with professional success in mind but with legislative action in mind as well. He is joining Tennessee lawmakers and drunk driving prevention groups such as Mothers Against Drunk Driving to try to get ignition interlock devices into more people’s cars.
There is a House Bill and a Senate Bill in Tennessee that, if passed, would require even first-time DUI offenders to put ignition interlock devices in their cars. Some might argue that those convicted of a first DUI already face severe consequences in the state. They can lose their driver’s licenses for a year on top of paying a fine and spending at least two days in jail.
Walker supports legislative proposals that would add another form of punishment to first-time offenders’ sentencing. Those who would still be allowed to drive could only do so with a vehicle that has an ignition interlock device, a computer that tests whether there’s alcohol in a driver’s system.
Why is Walker speaking out about this legal matter? He is passionate about the issue after losing an aunt and uncle to a drunk driving accident. He thinks that the enactment of harsher DUI laws would be a nice welcome to Tennessee for the former 49ers player.
